Ottawa Considers Phosphates Ban

CANADA: The federal government is considering banning phosphates in a variety of household and industrial products, according to The Canadian Press. Environment Canada plans to hire experts to analyze the “socioeconomic and environmental impacts” of proposed new restrictions on phosphates. The consultants will examine “possible control scenarios, including a total ban on phosphorus in detergents and cleaning products” and report by May 2008.
